Description

Following the second set of stamps depicting “Former Ode on the Red Cliff,” a work by Su Shi of the Song dynasty and is held in the National Palace Museum, issued on November 20, 2024, Chunghwa Post has issued the third set of five se-tenant stamps, each valued at NT$8. “Former Ode on the Red Cliff” is the only surviving work of Su Shi’s “Ode on the Red Cliff” Calligraphy. The brushstrokes are full-bodied yet sedate. The work combines literature with artistic creation. In 1082, he took a boat excursion with friends to the Red Cliff. He recalled the Battle of the Red Cliff that Sun Quan attacked Cao Cao’s forces during the Three Kingdoms period, and showed his understanding of human life. A stamp collection containing the first, second and third sets of the postage stamps has been released along with the stamps. The design with a 52-centimeter-long horizontal se-tenant strip of fifteen, the collection is worth collecting.
