Description
Following the Modern Taiwanese Paintings Postage Stamps (Issue of 2021) and to introduce the artistic achievements of Taiwan’s own artists, Chunghwa Post has offered a set of four stamps featuring paintings from the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. The stamps are described below:
1. Chen Cheng-po’s Tamsui Landscape (Tamsui) (NT$9): The overall composition adopts a bird’s-eye view, with layers of buildings on a hillside, roofs of varied heights, and winding paths creating a rich sense of spatial depth. Oil on canvas, 91 × 117 cm, 1935.
2. Chen Hui-kun’s Yehliu Scenery (NT$9): The painting features a striking contrast between the yellow-brown rocks and the deep blue sea. The contours of the rocks and coastline are smoothly outlined with dark brown lines, while the sky is rendered with light blue, purple, and white hues, evoking a sense of vastness. Oil on canvas, 91 × 117 cm, 1969.
3. Liao Chi-chun’s A Sea of Clouds at Alishan (NT$9): The painting depicts layers of soft pink clouds drifting towards the distant horizon. In the foreground there are clusters of trees depicted in a totem style. Oil on linen, 53 × 65 cm, 1953.
4. Ma Pai-sui’s Mt. Jade Covered in Snow (NT$9): Each of the 14 individual paintings stands alone as a complete artwork, but when assembled, they form a single large composition. They create the effect of viewing the magnificent Mt. Jade landscape through a window. Watercolor and ink on paper, 244 × 427 cm, 1989.
