Getting StartedWhere to Get Stamps

Last updated:2023/06/29 Print
The first challenge for a beginner is figuring out where to get stamps.
The following are the four easiest ways:

I. Stamps on Envelopes

For a novice, collecting used stamps is the most economical method, for they are easier to acquire and preserve than new stamps. Yet often beginners wonder which is more valuable.
As far as monetary value is concerned, new stamps are usually worth more. Because most new stamps will be used for postage after being released and become old stamps, there will be more old stamps and fewer new stamps as time goes by.

II. Enlisting Help from Family and Friends

Your family and friends are your best resources. Ask them to help gather stamps for you. Over time you can gradually acquire a large collection.

III. Swapping with Friends

Beginners can also befriend other collectors in stamp clubs, and they can trade stamps through the mail. You can also ask friends and family abroad to collect foreign stamps for you.

IV. New Use for Your Allowance

Often, stamp collectors are not satisfied with just collecting old stamps and will buy new stamp issues from the post office regularly. Chunghwa Post, for instance, will announce beforehand new stamp releases on its “Postage Stamps Issuing Information” page on its website (http://www.post.gov.tw) under “Stamp Services.” Check the website regularly and either make a purchase in person at a post office branches or order from the Postal Stamps Mall on line (https://stamp.post.gov.tw).
